Hello! Yep, my name is Day
For as long as I can remember I have been crafting and creating. I grew up in a family that encouraged creativity and we exchanged more homemade gifts than store-bought ones. I have always made my own jewelry and have a minor obsession with cooking and "putting up". I love having an idea and seeing it come to life at my fingertips, whether on a plate, under my X-Acto knife, or on the computer screen.
design experience
+ Starting in 2016, I have been a freelance contractor for a local design agency. I currently work with their clients on a variety of projects including posters, digital promotional material, logos, menu design, and layout of a corporate magazine.
+ From 2008 - 2016, I was the in-house designer for a small company in Portland. As the sole designer, I was involved in every aspect of design and marketing at the company: packaging, logos, product catalogs, advertisements, product design, trade show booth signage, website design, product photography, and social media strategy & execution.
+ Since 2011, I have also worked independently with small business clients creating logos, business identities, and websites.
+ I have a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Oregon State University and studied Graphic Design at Portland Community College.
what i love to do
Multi-page layout
Growing up, I loved to sort my penny jar chronologically, finding it incredibly satisfying to transform a jumbled pile into a neat line of little stacks gradually getting taller as they approached the current decade, like a bar graph depicting the life expectancy of a penny.
Now, instead of pennies, I sort digital piles of photos, articles, dates, facts, and quotes into beautiful, clean, orderly final products.
My biggest (and #1 favorite) current project is layout for a 120+ page quarterly corporate magazine. Basically my dream job!!
I have also worked on multiple product catalogs, like those for FIFTY/FIFTY bottles, that focus mainly on glamour photos plus specs and 80+ page engineering project proposals comprised of technical text and graphs.
Single-page layout
The same organizational obsession applies here, but for more simple projects such as advertisements, business cards, large signage, posters, or flyers. If you only have a vague idea of what you want, or already have all the specifics and just need them arranged on a page, I can help you out!
Basic website design
I don't claim to be a web designer. But I am pretty darn familiar with Squarespace and can build you a beautiful, functional site for your business, store, or blog. My goal will be to get you all set up and then let you take over daily updates and maintenance. Of course, I will be available if you have any questions, but the site would be mostly under your control. If that sounds good, then let's get started!
